A 35-year-old Springfield man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years to life in prison for his guilty plea in the rape of a 9-year-old girl.
The criminal trial for Larry Edward Kennedy II was to begin Nov. 18 on charges of rape and gross sexual imposition before Clark County Common Pleas Judge Douglas Rastatter.
According to an affidavit filed with the case, the child was staying with Kennedy in March when the incident occurred. Police were notified when the child returned home to her mother.
Forensic tests performed on the child and Kennedy determined that DNA from Kennedy was more than a 99 percent match to DNA found on the child.
Kennedy was booked into the Clark County Jail on June 17, on an unrelated burglary charge. That charge was later dismissed.
He has remained in jail on the rape charge in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
