Boy, 15, kicks out Dayton police cruiser window

A 15-year-old boy, already on home detention, made more trouble for himself Thursday when he kicked out the rear driver’s side window of a Dayton police cruiser.

Dayton Sgt. Joe Setty said the boy got into a fight with his mother about his cell phone, which she took from him.

About 5:20 p.m., police were called to the address on Arcadia Boulevard after the boy, who had been placed in the back of the cruiser on a charge of disorderly conduct, launched his feet against the window. It was sent to the street, where it shattered.

Setty said now the boy, who has been taken to Montgomery County Juvenile Detention, will be charged with vandalism.

No one was injured in the incident, the sergeant said.

Police were checking to find out why the boy had been placed on home detention.

Setty said about half of the police department’s vehicle fleet has reinforced windows that are more difficult to kick out and destroy. The cruiser involved in the Arcadia Boulevard incident wasn’t one with reinforced windows.
