5 arrested for narcotics possession

RICHMOND, Ind. — Five people are facing narcotics possession charges following a traffic stop in the 16th and South E streets area Tuesday night.

Around 10 p.m., a Indiana State Trooper stopped a SUV with a tail light out, according to a Indiana State Police news release. The state trooper stopped the driver to let him know the tail light was not working.

After making contact with the driver, Darrin Wright, 39, the trooper found the driver had no license.

The state trooper also learned the plate on the vehicle belonged to a different vehicle.

There were four other people in the vehicle.

A Wayne County Sheriff's Department K-9 officer was nearby and assisted with the traffic stop. The K-9 indicated the presence of narcotics.

A search turned up eight pills believed to be hydrocodone in the vehicle.

In addition to Wright, the vehicle owner and front seat passenger Jerry Messer, 44 of Richmond; Jeffrey Biggs, 44 of Richmond; Charles Carter, 47 of Richmond and Mildred Kessinger, age 31 of Richmond were arrested.

Wright was also cited for driving while his license is suspended and false and fictitious registration, according to state police.
