UPDATE @ 4:05 a.m.: Moraine police have identified the man arrested after a standoff in Vandalia as Virgil D. Pack, 36. In a statement, police credit a tip they received as leading to the arrest.
UPDATE @ 11:55 p.m.: The man arrested to end the police standoff at the Super 8 hotel in Vandalia was being sought on several felony warrants and surrendered peaceably, Vandalia police Lt. Kurt Althouse said.
He’ll be taken to the Montgomery County Jail, where he will be detained on the warrants out of Moraine on weapons and narcotics charges. He’s also on parole for witness intimidation, Althouse said.
The Vandalia Police Department will also file charges of obstructing official business and inducing panic, he said.
Althouse said Vandalia police were dispatched to the hotel about 7:30 p.m. on information from Moraine police that a person sought on warrants was there. Officers made a traffic stop near the hotel and came into contact with two individuals who said they were familiar with the suspect and believed he was in one of the hotel rooms.
About an hour into the standoff, the man admitted he was fugitive police were searching for. Althouse said his officers were able to get the man to surrender about 10:15 p.m. after building a rapport with him through a series of phone calls and text messages.
Althouse said that for the most part, hotel operations were not disrupted. Only one room had to be evacuated, he said.

FIRST REPORT
Police are involved in a standoff at the Super 8 Vandalia/Dayton International Airport in the 500 block of East National Road.
We’re trying to gathering details about what led to the situation, which has police officers with their weapons drawn, some crouching behind vehicles.
We’ve learned so far that police went to the hotel as part of an investigation for Moraine police. Word of the standoff began going public just after 8 p.m.
One of the hotel guests tells us the situation has been active at least 45 minutes to an hour, and that police are focused on Room 104.
“We were looking out the window and they [police] shooed us back” from the window, the guest said.
The guest explained that she is a student attending classes at a nearby business school and stays at the hotel because she lives in Celina.
