2nd suspect in Damarcus Buress case sentenced

UPDATE @ 3:40 p.m. (March 24):

A second man was sentenced today who had pleaded guilty in the July 2015 death and robbery of 25-year-old Damarcus Buress.

Carlos Craig was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison. He pleaded guilty to murder, aggravated robbery, discharge of a firearm and felonious assault charges in January and testified against two other suspects.

On March 4, Robert Gilmore Jr. was acquitted of all charges, and last month, Jamar Howard was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison after he was convicted in January of complicity to murder and complicity to aggravated robbery.

Buress was fatally shot July 7, 2015, inside a car at East Third Street and North Delmar Avenue in Dayton.

Jamar Howard was sentenced Thursday to 18 years to life in prison after he was found guilty Jan. 21 of complicity to commit murder and complicity to aggravated robbery in the 2015 murder of Damarcus Buress.

UPDATE @ 5:07 p.m. (Jan. 11):

The trial of a Trotwood man accused of complicity to murder and complicity to aggravated robbery began Monday in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

Jamar Howard, who turned 19 on Monday, is one of three men accused in the July 2015 homicide of Damarcus Buress, 25, who died after being shot in a vehicle East Third Street and North Delmar Avenue.

Last week, Carlos Craig pleaded guilty to killing Buress. On Monday, Craig testified that he and Howard decided to rob Buress of a quarter-ounce of marijuana and that he shot Buress when Buress made a move with his right arm.

Craig will be sentenced to 18 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to murder, aggravated robbery, discharge of a firearm and felonious assault charges.

Robert Gilmore Jr. is charged with complicity to commit murder, complicity to commit aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence. Craig and another witness testified Monday that Gilmore provided the weapon and took part in a three-way split of the marijuana.

INITIAL REPORT (Jan. 6):

A man has pleaded guilty to fatally shooting a 25-year-old man in Dayton in July 2015.

Carlos Craig will be sentenced to 18 years to life in prison for the shooting death of Damarcus Buress, who died after he was shot July 7 in a vehicle in the area of East Third Street and North Delmar Avenue. Craig pleaded guilty to charges of murder, aggravated robbery, discharge of a firearm and felonious assault charges, Judge Richard Skelton said.
