DAYTON — Nearly 2.5 million people in Ohio have had at least one dose of a Covid vaccine.

Several hundred shots have come from a Miami Valley doctor who is donating his time to fight the pandemic.

Dr. David Novick is volunteering at Zik’s Family Pharmacy’s clinic at Mount Enon Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton.

“This is the major medical event of the century. I wanted to be a part of it. I wanted to help win the battle,” Dr. Novick said.

His patients appreciate his service.

“I think that’s great,” Valorie Taylor said after she got her first shot.

The 72-year-old semi-retired doctor has worked six clinics vaccinating at least 400 people.

He is encouraging more people to get the shots.

“It’s free. It’s safe. It’s effective. And it’s available now,” Dr. Novick said.

He plans to continue volunteering at the clinics.
