The Dayton City Commission on Wednesday will decide whether to purchase part of the former Dayton Daily News site for $450,000 from its owner, demolition contractor Steve R Rauch.
The city is considering purchasing properties located at 117 W. Fourth Street and 45 S. Ludlow Street.
The downtown property was the site of the former Dayton Daily News operations. The facilities were torn down except for a historic building at the corner of South Ludlow and West Fourth streets.
The demolition work was completed as part of plans to redevelop the property into student housing.
But the developer, Student Suites, failed to move forward with the project.
The historic portion of the Dayton Daily News building is not part of the proposed real estate deal. Rauch in May said he hoped Dayton History would take over ownership of the historic building.
