The 15-year-old girl a search team found in the north part of the Taylorsville MetroPark reserve is in good medical condition and has been taken to Dayton Children's Hospital for medical evaluation, Vandalia police Sgt. Gary Jackson said.

Police received a call concerning the girl about 5:45 p.m. and because of the weather -- it's rainy and temperatures that have fallen into the 40s are expected to reach the 30s by morning, according to the area forecast -- Jackson said he activated the police department's search and rescue component.

The girl was wearing shorts and a hoodie, he said, "not dressed for the weather. Hypothermia was our main concern, especially if she had gotten wet."

Huber Heights firefighters, Butler Twp. police and Five Rivers MetroParks police assisted Vandalia police and fire, Jackson said.

The search team picked up pings from the girl's cell phone about 9:15 p.m. One of the officers built a rapport with the girl and got her to tell him exactly where she was, the sergeant said.
