Crews battle residential fire for several hours in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 8:41 a.m.: Springfield fire crews battled flames for several hours while on scene of a two-story residential fire in the 430 block of East Grand Avenue this morning.

According to initial reports, occupants were already outside when crews arrived.

“At this point, we’re chasing down hot spots and will investigate to try and see what caused it,” Springfield Fire Capt. Charles Alexander said.

Flames quickly spread from the bedroom to a shed roof towards the back of the home, Alexander said.

No injuries were reported.

FIRST REPORT: Occupants made their way safely outside a two-story structure fire before crews arrived on scene in the 430 block of East Grand Avenue this morning.

According to scanner reports, crews arrived shortly before 5:30 a.m. as flames progressed through the shed area.
