SPRINGFIELD — Springtime is when you are most likely to see bee swarms in your neighborhood.
News Center 7′s Jenna Lawson spoke with an expert about what you should do if you find one.
Jim Lyons is a beehive removal expert and the state apiary inspector for Clark county.
He was called to remove a swarm of about ten thousand honey bees outside one of Renea Turner’s tenant’s house.
There is a way to handle them without harming the already endangered insects.
Lyons created a small bee box filled with sugar water so the bees will swarm to that instead of near the house.
Honeybees are already endangered species, and now there is a new predator to the honeybees: Asian murder hornets.
They can kill an entire hive in just a few hours.
The murder hornets have only been found in Washington state, and are at a low risk in Ohio.
If you do see a honeybee swarm and even a murder hornet, Lyons recommends walking away slowly and call an exterminator or a bee removal expert.
