Carroll High School students and staff will go through an active shooter drill under the supervision of the Riverside Police Department this afternoon.

The purpose of the drill is to prepare students and staff to make informed decisions should an active shooter crisis arise at Carroll High School.

The drill will be as realistic and thorough as possible without creating unnecessary hazards to the health and safety of the drill’s participants, according to a release.

According to the ALICE Training Institute website: “ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training prepares individuals to handle the threat of an Active Shooter. ALICE teaches individuals to participate in their own survival, while leading others to safety. Though no one can guarantee success in this type of situation, this new set of skills will greatly increase the odds of survival should anyone face this form of disaster.”

“Keeping students safe is paramount to our mission at Carroll High School,” Carroll High School Principal Matt Sableski said in a release. “To that end, we want to make sure that every member of our community is prepared for the unthinkable. ALICE teaches that individuals should take responsibility for their own safety in the midst of a crisis. By executing this drill, we are making students and teachers aware of all the options that are available to them so that they could make better decisions in an actual crisis.”
