XENIA — Crews are working to pinpoint the cause of a house fire in the 1900 block of Pennsylvania Drive on Wednesday evening that caused significant damage.

The resident, an older male heard a popping noise, went outside to check but found nothing, Xenia Fire Chief Kenneth Riggsby said.

Riggsby said the fire appears to be accidental and began either in the attic or the attached garage. The house is not a total loss, he said, but there is significant damage.

The man heard another popping noise a short time later, saw nothing but smelled something burning. His neighbors called 9-1-1 to report flames and smoke coming from the single-family residence, the chief said.

Xenia fire crews were dispatched on the incident, which was reported about 6:38 p.m.

The resident, who was not injured, will be displaced because. The Red Cross has been called, the chief said.
