Restarting Ohio: Free meals for children available at all Dayton Metro Library branches

Library to distribute fruits, vegetables as well

Free meals for children are now available at all 18 Dayton Metro Library branches through the Ohio Department of Education authorization to the Children’s Hunger Alliance to expand meal distribution to the library locations.

That OK targeted expanded meal distribution at the Wilmington-Stroop and Kettering-Moraine branches of the library system.

The library also received a grant from the COVID-19 Response Fund for Greater Dayton to cover food distribution at the remaining two branches, Brookville and Vandalia, so free shelf-stable meals are now available at all 18 library locations.

Starting July 13, the library is partnering with Premier Produce to add fresh produce distribution as well. Produce boxes contain 22 pounds of assorted fresh fruits and vegetables (apples, oranges, potatoes, onions, celery, etc.) pre-sorted, packed and ready for pickup. This is a USDA funded program. Anyone can take a box (or more than one). No requirements or pre-registration are required.

Each week, parents can pick up 10 meals per child (2 meals per day) at the designated times and locations.

Dayton Metro Library will distribute produce boxes, along with the shelf-stable meals, through Aug. 27 at these library locations and times:
