Woman says husband’s car, hit and rolled by another car, ‘probably saved the house’

DAYTON — Kimberly Mantuano said her husband’s car probably saved their house Tuesday night after a crash that left his car on its top - beneath another car that slammed into it while going in reverse at Edgar Avenue and Wyoming Street in Dayton.

Mantuano said a white car that ended up on top of her husband’s blue car had hit another car on the other side of the street and apparently hooked onto that other car.The accident was reported just after 9 p.m.

The driver in the white car hit reverse to free his vehicle, she said, and continued backing until it slammed into her husband’s car, which was parked alongside their house. The white car ended up on top of her husband’s car after rolling it onto its top.

The man who was driving the white car was taken away by a medic unit, Mantuano said. His condition was not known. Dayton police officers on scene were not allowed to comment on the accident.

“It looks pretty bad,” she said. “The car probably saved the house in the end,” she said of her husband’s car, because it took the brunt of the impact.

There’s also a natural gas line right next to her husband’s car and both cars came really close to perhaps damaging the line.

Mantuano lauded her neighbors, some of whom showed up to show her and her husband support and to offer them rides if they needed.
