1 killed, 1 injured in Middletown vehicle accident, state patrol says

UPDATE @ 7:38 p.m.:  Witnesses say a sedan continued through an intersection and collided with the right rear of a semitrailer, leaving the driver dead and his passenger injured.

That's the preliminary assessment of the Middletown vehicle accident at North Clinton Street and Manchester Avenue, said state patrol Sgt. Brian Bost, Hamilton Patrol Post.

The sedan was headed west on Manchester and the semitrailer was traveling north on North Clinton when the accident occurred.

"For some reason, [the sedan] didn't stop at the stop sign. Don't know why. That's what caused the accident," the sergeant said.

The passenger in the sedan has been taken to Atrium Medical Center, suffering from non-life threatening injuries. The state patrol is working to learn the names, ages and addresses of the two people in the sedan. Both are elderly, Bost said.

The driver of the semitrailer was not injured. Bost said the driver had just dropped off a load in Monroe and was headed to Indiana.
