Evening storms hitting region with lightning

Storms throughout the region this evening are delivering lightning caused some big problems:

— 10:11 p.m.: Report of lightning strike on residence in the 3600 block of New Carlisle Pike, Springfield Twp., Clark County. No word on injuries. Fire crews dispatched

— 8:25 p.m.: A blue Audi reportedly struck by lightning on I-70 West near mile marker 68. No injuries were reported, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch.

— 8:02 p.m.: Report of lightning strike on residence, with smoke in the structure, at 2556 Snyder Domer Road, German Twp. Crews remain on scene and have called in mutual aid

— 7:45 p.m.: Report of resident struck by lightning, house fire, 1235 Macintosh Court, Tipp City. Victim's condition is not known. A check with Tipp City fire officials at 10:45 p.m. revealed that no one was hit by lightning, but the lightning strike did cause minor damage to the home's soffit and melted some electrical sockets.

— 7:30 p.m.: A University of Dayton student was struck by lightning as he walked across campus. He was reported to be serious condition, according to fire officials.

EARLIER TODAY

UPDATE @1:55 p.m.: A barn was destroyed in the 9000 block of Paddock Road in Preble County.

UPDATE @12:40 p.m.: A vacant church in the 5700 block of West Xenia Avenue in Greene County was damaged in morning storms.

UPDATE @ 12:05 p.m.: A house and barn in the 4000 block of Houston Road in Hamilton was damaged. Two barns in the 3000 block of Summerville Lane were also damaged.

In Liberty Twp., fire crews responded to a home in the 6000 block of Oakmanor Drive after a transformer connected to the home blew and caused a fire.

In Butler County, utility poles are reported down in the 3900 block of Ohio 73; the intersection of Warwick and Eaton roads; and on Lyons Road.

UPDATE @ 11:30 a.m.: In Centerville, multiple trees have fallen on Marsha Jeanne Way due to wind gusts reported over 50 mph in the area.

UPDATE @ 11:20 a.m.: Numerous reports of dime, penny and nickel-sized hail in most Miami Valley counties.

UPDATE @ 11:11 a.m.: A large tree fell on an apartment building on Jamestown Circle in Washington Township. Emergency crews were working to evacuate residents from the building. There are no reports of injuries.

UPDATE @ 10:37 a.m.: Power lines fell over the roadway on U.S. 127 in Butler County as well as Red Lion in Lebanon.

FIRST REPORT

The severe line of storms moved through eastern Indiana just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, then quickly moved in to Preble, Butler and Darke counties in Ohio.

The Butler County Emergency Dispatch Center reports a lot of debris in the New Miami and Trenton areas.
