Smoke pours from large trash fire at Montgomery County waste facility

MORAINE — Smoke poured from a fire at the Montgomery County Solid Waste Facility Saturday afternoon.

Around 5:15 p.m. Moraine fire crews were called to the Montgomery County Solid Waste Facility on Sandridge Drive.

Crews initially were called to the facility on a fire alarm but noticed smoke coming from the back of the structure when they arrived, according to Moraine Deputy Fire Chief Michael Guadagno.

Guadagno said the facilities’ sprinkler system was activated and helped put out the bulk of the large trash fire.

Crews brought in heavy equipment to help move the debris and wet it down, Guadagno said.

No injuries were reported.

At this time it is unclear what started the fire.
