Man shoots himself at home, Dayton police say

A man shot himself in the leg while cleaning his handgun at his home and has been taken to Miami Valley Hospital.

Dayton police and a medic unit were dispatched to the 5500 block of Santa Cruz Avenue just after 5 p.m., Sgt. Gross said.

The man called 9-1-1 to report that he had been shot.

The sergeant said the man's injury appears to be non-life threatening.
