Earlier severe storm warnings cancelled; widespread wind damage reported

All severe thunderstorm warnings have been allowed to expire in the region.

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Widespread damage has been reported in Darke, Preble, and Montgomery counties as severe storms rolled through the region with strong winds up to 90 mph reported.

Time Lapse: High winds move through Dayton Metro WATCH as winds up to 60mph moved through parts of the Miami Valley Tuesday afternoon between 2:45 to 4pm.

• Trained weather spotters reported several downed trees in Oxford that fell when the storms rolled through
• In West Carrollton near Burns Road, multiple downed trees were reported by trained weather spotters
• On U.S. 127 near Interstate 70 in Preble County, dispatchers confirmed an overturned semi report. Emergency crews remain on scene.
• On South Maple Street in Eaton, a caller reported to this newsroom several trees were knocked down by high winds
• On Somes Gratis Road in Preble County, fire crews were dispatched to a report of a tree on top of a house with occupants possible trapped inside.
• On Ohio 49 south of Greenville, our news partner The Early Bird reports a tree down.
• In Darke County multiple other reports of downed trees due to high winds including the 700 block of Ohio 503, Ohio 49 at Schnorf Jones Road, and New Garden Road just south of New Madison
• In Farmersville, several large trees have been reported down, according to reports from trained weather spotters
• In Perry Twp. and Trotwood police have reported multiple downed trees between I-70 and U.S. 35

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the entire Miami Valley until 2 a.m. Wednesday as more heavy rain and storms are expected to develop today, according to Storm Center 7 Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs.

“Already saturated and a very moist environment means any storms will be able to produce flooding rainfall again,” Vrydaghs said.

DETAILED FORECAST

TODAY: More storms will develop into the afternoon. An isolated severe threat also exists today though flooding will likely be the main issue. Damaging winds and hail are also possible with the storms that develop. It will be very warm today in the middle 80s but with the mugginess our Heat Index values will reach the low 90s.

TONIGHT:  Storms come to an end this evening, but a few more storms may redevelop in the far north and northeastern part of the Miami Valley overnight. These areas will slowly dry towards morning as the storms lift north and east of the area. A good majority of the Miami Valley, including Dayton and points south could remain dry all night. Temperatures stay mild and muggy with lows in the lower 70s.

WEDNESDAY: It will be the hottest day of the week with highs around 90 degrees and heat index vales in the middle 90s.

“Take steps to protect yourself from the heat if you work outside or are planning on spending time outdoors,” Vrydaghs said. “Drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks.”

Sunshine and scattered clouds mix for the day. Some storms possible late at night in the north again.

THURSDAY: Expect lots of clouds with a chance for showers and storms. Highs will be in the upper 80s.

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy skies will end the week with only a slight chance for a passing shower or storm. It will not be quite as hot with highs in the middle 80s.

SATURDAY: Expect partly cloudy skies and highs in the middle 80s.
