Driver crashes into US Bank lot to avoid shots from another car in Dayton

A driver crashed into a curb in a US Bank parking lot around noon Sunday after another car was in pursuit, firing a gun.

Officers were called to a report of a crash and shots fired incident, but when they arrived the driver of the car that struck the curb fled on foot and the suspect vehicle also left the area, said Dayton police Sgt. Creigee Coleman.

Witnesses told police that both vehicles were headed north when the car crashed in the bank lot, 2350 N. Gettysburg Ave. The crashed car, which was abandoned when the driver fled on foot, did not have any bullet holes, Coleman said, and police were working to canvass the area for casings and would be reviewing surveillance video from area businesses.

Coleman urged anyone with information to cooperate with police.

“This person was indiscriminately driving up Gettysburg and shooting at a car, not really worrying about the other citizens and the other traveling public that could have been hit by his gunfire,” he said.
