Police: Same robber hit Walgreens, Dollar General in Dayton

UPDATE @ 4:20 p.m. (Jan. 15)

Dayton police believe the same suspect is responsible for two armed robberies on Saturday afternoon reported only minutes apart.

The first robbery happened at 1:05 p.m. at Dollar General, 2228 N. Gettysburg Avenue, and the second was reported at 1:20 p.m. at Walgreens, 4121 Hoover Ave.

The suspect in each robbery had a similar description, according to a Dayton police report. The suspect was described as a man with a handgun and white mask who stands between 5 feet 8 and 5 feet 10 inches and weighs between 160 and 170 pounds.

FIRST REPORT

A Walgreens cashier was so traumatized that a second employee had to step in to comply with a robber this afternoon, Dayton police Sgt. Creigee Coleman said.

The robbery was reported at 1:20 p.m. at the store, 4121 Hoover Ave.

The second worker handed the suspect money from the register, and at one point the suspect also reached in and grabbed money from the cash drawer, Coleman said.

The suspect was wearing a white mask and was described as standing between 5 feet 8 and 5 feet 10 inches and weighing between 160 and 170 pounds. He got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, and one worker said he jumped into a vehicle as he fled.

Detectives will be reviewing surveillance video and will be seeking the public’s help to identify the suspect, Coleman said.
