Coroner IDs suspected intruder shot in Dayton

UPDATE @ 3:45 p.m.

A suspected intruder shot and killed early today was identified as Bryan Q. Lewis, 36, of Dayton, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Lewis died of multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, and his death is considered a homicide.

Montgomery County Common Pleas Court records show Lewis was convicted in 2012 of theft of a residence on Idle Wild Boulevard just a short walk from the Lindale house. Lewis had been indicted for aggravated burglary and robbery but pleaded to lesser charges and was sentenced to probation.

Dayton police offered an update to a homicide investigation underway in the 3200 block of Lindale Avenue:

“The initial investigation by those detectives indicates the homeowner was asleep inside the home when he was awakened by an intruder who threatened him. The homeowner was able to reach a firearm and shoot the intruder. The homeowner was not injured.

Detectives are still very early in their investigation; at this time interviews are being conducted and evidence is being processed.”

A resident fatally shot an intruder at his Lindale Avenue home Friday morning.

The shooting was reported around 5:40 a.m. in the 3200 block of Lindale Avenue.

A Montgomery County Coroner’s investigator arrived on scene shortly before 6:30 a.m. Homicide detectives are also on scene.

In a 911 call, the resident reported the intruder broke the window on the back door, came to his bedroom and threatened him. He said he pulled a gun out of his night hand and shot the intruder twice.

In the 911 call, the resident said he had never seen the alleged intruder before in his life.

“You think nothing like this is ever gonna happen,” he tells the 911 dispatcher. “I’m just glad I had something, otherwise he would have clawed my head in with a hammer.”
