Beavercreek police seek suspicious man at bus stop

BEAVERCREEK — For the second time in a week, there has been a report of a suspicious man near a Beavercreek bus stop.

In a letter addressed to Beavercreek families, Superintendent Paul Otten said that on Wednesday morning, a Coy Middle School student was waiting at a district bus stop off Lomeda Lane when a black Jeep Wrangler approached.

The driver stopped, rolled down the passenger window slightly and tried to entice the student to get into the Jeep, the letter says.

According to the incident report, the male driver said to the student: “Your dad said for me to pick you up and take you to school.” The student responded with an expletive and called the driver a “pedophile.”

The student moved away from the vehicle when it drove off, the report says.

“Thanks to the actions and quick thinking of our student, the driver left the scene,” Otten says in his letter.

The Beavercreek Police Department is investigating the incident. Police also have stepped up patrols at bus stops.

The student indicated that the black Jeep Wrangler had tinted windows and possibly a rear window decal of a smiley face.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Beavercreek Police Department at 937-426-1225.

“I’m hearing a lot about this kind of stuff these days,” said Beavercreek resident Bobbi Jenkins, who lives in the same neighborhood. “A lot of bad things going on in the world right now. It’s scary. A lot of scary things going on right now.”

Last week, Beavercreek police received reports of a suspicious man approaching children at a bus stop. Later in the day, officers talked with the man and did not consider him to be a threat.

News Center 7’s Gabrielle Enright is working on this story, and will have more on this later today.
