Urban Meyer: ‘15 years ago, the unthinkable happened’

Ohio State Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer used the marching band’s Skull Session on Saturday as a way to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11.

A day before the 15th anniversary, Meyer told a packed St. John Arena before a 3:30 p.m. game against Tulsa: “Tomorrow is Sept. 11. Fifteen years ago, the unthinkable happened. On this day, our thoughts and prayers are with the families that were directly impacted and also for the men and women who protect us every day who are in harm’s way, the men and women who serve in our military, the men and women in public service. Thank you very much for what you do.

“One thing history proves to everybody. Nothing is guaranteed. A bunch of people walked into that building 15 years ago making dinner reservations, sending flowers to loved ones, and the world changed that day. History tells us there is no guarantee in life. What is guaranteed is this is we have a bunch of blessed young men behind me who get to play this great of football, and they get to play in front of you, the best fans in the land. Most importantly, they get to play with each other. They’re a group of players completely committed to our university.
