Reds no-hit loss to Cubs most lopsided in MLB since 1884

The Cincinnati Reds 16-0  loss to Jake Arrieta and the Chicago Cubs on Thursday was the most lopsided no-hit defeat in Major League Baseball since 1884, according to Ronald Liebman of SABR.org and confirmed by Dayton Daily News sports statistical expert Jonmarc Lippincott.

The worst no-hit loss in the 20th century was in 1905 when pitcher Frank Smith of the Chicago White Sox no-hit the Detroit Tigers in a 15-0 win. Jim Galvin of Buffalo won an 18-0 no-hitter against Detroit in 1884 - 132 years ago.

The Reds were last no-hit in the regular season on June 23, 1971, the longest streak in the majors and the second longest in history. Roy Halladay pitched a perfect game against the Reds in 2010, but it was in the postseason during National League Divsion Series playoffs.
