Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones announces that due to the extremely frigid weather conditions, anyone in need of temporary relief from the cold is permitted to “warm up” in the main lobby area of the Butler County Jail.
Sheriff Jones said “no one should be stranded outside or in a vehicle during these extreme low temperatures. If you need a place to go, you are welcome here in our lobby. These temperature conditions can be life-threatening and we do have restroom facilities available.”
It is anticipated that cold weather conditions will improve toward the middle or end of the week. The Sheriff hopes that providing a temporary place to “warm-up” will provide some help and assist other, more traditional shelters that may be overcrowded, under staffed, or otherwise not able to assist someone during the cold and snow.
The jail lobby will be open while temperatures remain below freezing. The Butler County Jail is located at 705 Hanover Street in the City of Hamilton.
