Tanker carrying oil crashes, catches fire on I-75

UPDATE @1:25 p.m.

A driver trapped in a tanker truck that crashed and caught fire Thursday morning was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the tanker was traveling in the right hand lane of traffic when the driver lost control and went off the right side of the road. The tanker overturned several times.

Officials said the driver should have been traveling in the left lane because it was a construction zone.

No oil was leaked.

FIRST REPORT

A tanker truck carrying vegetable oil has crashed and caught fire on southbound Interstate 75 in Shelby County.

The crash was reported shortly before 11 a.m. Initial reports indicate the driver was trapped in the tanker.

Traffic is backed up in the area.
