Residents displaced after crash into apartments

About a dozen people have been displaced after a car went out of control and struck an apartment building in Dayton.

The car was heavily damaged and caught fire after striking the corner of the building in the 1900 block of North James H. McGee Boulevard shortly after 12:30 p.m.

The driver was injured and taken to the hospital. The passenger was not hurt.

It’s unclear what caused the crash.

Northbound traffic on James H. McGee Boulevard was blocked to traffic while emergency crews were on scene.

The building was significantly damaged as well and a building inspector was called to assess it for structural integrity.

A fire official said about 12 people who live in apartments in the building will temporarily have to find another place to stay.
