Middletown OVI Checkpoint results released

A state patrol OVI checkpoint Friday night netted no drunk drivers, but two traffic stops during the saturation patrols resulted in arrests.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol staged an OVI checkpoint from 9 to 11 p.m. at Verity Parkway near 18th Avenue in the city of Middletown.

During the checkpoint, 568 vehicles traveled through and four vehicles were diverted to a testing area for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

None were found to be operating under the influence. Two of the drivers were cited for driving under suspension and two misdemeanor warrant arrests were made.

State troopers, Middletown police and members of the Butler County OVI Task Force staffed the sobriety checkpoint, which had nearby saturation patrols looking for potential impaired drivers attempting to avoid the checkpoint.

The saturation patrol officers made two OVI arrests, issued one seat belt citation, one open container citation, three speed citations, three other moving violation citations and one minor misdemeanor drug citation.

The six-person saturation patrols made 24 total traffic stops.

Patrol statistics show nearly 14,000 OVI-related crashes occurred in 2014. Of those crashes, 313 people were killed and more than 5,800 people were injured in Ohio.
