Trotwood city manager to retire next month

City Manager Mike Lucking announced he will retire next month after nearly 17 years with the city.

He served as city manager for 10 years. His retirement will be effective July 31.

“I am forever grateful for the experience and, in particular, the opportunity to lead,” Lucking stated in a news release issued this evening. “I am eager to begin the next chapter of my personal and professional life.”

In May, City Council approved a new employment agreement to rehire him after his retirement, with an annual salary of $127,525. Lucking did not sign the resolution relating to his new contract. He confirmed Friday that he will not be seeking to be rehired.

Lucking previously worked for the city of Dayton, Montgomery County and the U.S. Air Force, according to the release.

Although he is leaving the city, Lucking will complete his term as the 2014-15 president of the Ohio City/County Management Association, the release stated.

Quincy E. Pope Sr., public safety director and deputy city manager, will serve as interim manager while the city council works to find Lucking’s replacement.
