Woman hit by car in Riverside in serious condition

UPDATE @ 8:01 p.m.: A woman in her 20s suffered serious injuries when she was struck by a car in the 2000 block of Harshman Road in an accident police said remains under investigation.

Riverside Sgt. Rhett Close said the woman was hit in the northbound lanes. No other injuries were reported. She has been taken to Miami Valley Hospital. He declined to release her name or address until her family could be contacted.

Close would not comment on the report of an eyewitness who said the woman had no chance of making it across the road.

The sergeant said witnesses were interviewed and police are not releasing any more details until investigation is complete.

UPDATE @ 7:20 p.m.: Harshman Road has been reopened after the accident involving a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

Andrew Kirsch of Huber Heights said he was driving north on Harshman, a few cars behind the vehicle that struck the woman. He said he noticed the woman on the side of the road, in an area where there was no crosswalk.

“As soon as she left the sidewalk she had no chance of making it,” Kirsch said. “It was raining heavily, so that could have factored into why she thought she had more time to cross.”

As the woman ran, the vehicle in the right lane missed her. She was struck by the car in the left lane although both drivers applied their brakes.

“It was pretty horrible to see,” Kirsch said. “The part that bugs me is why she thought she could make it across the road. But she had no chance. She had no chance at all.”
