Mich. truck driver killed in semi crash

A 43-year-old Michigan truck driver was killed after his semi collided into another semi Tuesday evening on Interstate 70.

William E. Hall, of Roundtown, Michigan, was driving a 2015 Volvo hauling a box trailer when he rear-ended a 2006 International semi hauling a tanker trailer driven by 50-year-old Jacek M. Grotkowski of Missouri, according to a release issued Wednesday by Wayne County, Indiana, Sheriff Jeff Cappa.

According to initial investigation, Grotkowski was in the right lane slowing down due to backed up traffic caused by another crash at the time of the crash. Upon impact, the Volvo veered to the right and onto the exit lane for truck weighing before striking the bottom of the north side of the Salisbury Road overpass. Hall was pronounced dead at the scene, Cappa reported.

Grotkowski was treated and released from Reid Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office crash analysis reconstruction team, according to the sheriff.
