Meteor shower tonight

A special treat in the sky tonight and early tomorrow morning: the Lyrid meteor shower will be peaking.

Star gazers can grab a blanket and brave the cold to try and spot some meteors.

The best window to get outside is between 11 p.m. and sunrise Thursday.

According to NASA, the Lyrid meteor shower is rather tame, usually producing around 10 to 20 meteors per hour. This shower can be unpredictable though. An outburst of meteors can produce an even better show. The last time this was recorded was back in the 80s according to NASA.

Tonight will be chilly with lows in the 30s and some lingering clouds. A dark sky will help sky gazers because a slim crescent moon will set in the evening.
