Englewood OKs rezoning for proposed retail center

Englewood City Council approved an ordinance Tuesday night that would allow the Englewood Truck property at 1128 S. Main St. to be rezoned to make way for a proposed retail center.

The ordinance, which goes into effect 30 days after Tuesday’s approval, calls for the property at the southeast quadrant of Ohio 48 and Wenger Road to be rezoned from the Highway Commercial District to the Special Planned Unit Development.

BSM Englewood LLC requested the change, according to William Singer, the city’s community and economic director.

The proposed development plan calls for the construction of approximately 50,700 square feet of multi-tenant retail/restaurant space on approximately 7.3 acres at the South Main Street property.

Englewood Truck has utilized this property since the 1960s. The South Main Street property abuts a Bob Evans restaurant and Sunoco gas station.
