Businesses remain closed after tornado

Several businesses are still closed in Beavercreek — two days after a tornado touched down at the Greene Crossing Shopping Center.

The area remains blocked by caution tape.

Inspectors are working to determine if the building is safe for the public. It houses Hancock Fabric, Sake, Mattress Firm, Fitworks and Performance Bicycle.

It is too soon to say when the businesses will be able to reopen. Greene County crews say their main focus is to verify that electric and gas systems are safe to turn back on, and that the fire alarm and sprinkler systems will be working.

Performance Bicycle says they will sit outside to meet their customers until they get word it is safe inside.

Inspectors say they also have to look at structural damage done when an HVAC unit was blown across the roof.

The city of Beavercreek has also set a debris pickup schedule for several neighborhoods.
