Vehicle knocks down pole, wires in Greenville

A driver who hit a light pole along state Route 49, bringing it and wires down, will be cited for failure to control a motor vehicle, police said.

A Jeep Cherokee, driven by a male believed to be in his mid-30s, hit the pole sometime after 6 p.m. The vehicle ended up on its side and wires were left in the roadway.

He was not injured, Greenville police said.

State Route 49 was shut down in both directions for a brief time. The northbound lane has since reopened to traffic.

The southbound lane will remain closed until the pole and wires can be cleared.
