Thief caught red-handed breaking into mayor’s car

A thief was hanging outside a church, apparently waiting for Sunday services to start so he can steal from cars.

Only he is caught red-handed last Sunday after churchgoers see him break into Greenville Mayor Michael Bowers’ truck outside the church in the 100 block of West Fifth Street, our partner Blue Bag Media reported.

The thief took a tablet from the mayor’s truck and ran off. When church members called out that police were on the way, the thief put down the tablet and continued to run. Police caught him on Armstrong Street. When he was arrested, he told the officer, “I gave it back,” according to reports.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Jacob Henderson, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of theft and vehicle trespass Monday and was later released from the Darke County Jail on his own recognizance. His next court date is Tuesday, March 3, online court records show.
