Suspect ID’d in Dayton SWAT standoff

The suspect has been identified as Sharif Ahamad Qasim, 30. He is booked in the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of inducing panic and two weapons charges.

UPDATE @6:40 a.m.

A standoff involving SWAT has ended.

Around 6:25 a.m. the suspect came out of the house and was taken into custody.

Children that were in the house got out with the help of SWAT shortly before 6:20 a.m. No one was injured.

Main Street was reopened around 6:40 a.m.

FIRST REPORt 3:20 a.m.

North Main Street is closed in Dayton as a SWAT team responds to a call about a man with a gun.

North Main is closed between East Parkwood and East Shadyside drives. According to scanner traffic, a man fired a weapon with a small child in the room with him in a house in the 2600 block of North Main. Police were dispatched, and are unclear whether the man remains in the home.

An officer said the mother told them there are three children inside the home. The SWAT team is in place, working to peacefully resolve the situation.
