Sidney man sentenced in Piqua robbery

A Sidney man already in prison for a robbery in Sidney was sentenced Monday in a neighboring Miami County court for a second robbery last summer at a Piqua drive through.

Arthur Bennett, 25, was arrested last summer in an August robbery at the Sidney Marathon station and later charged with aggravated robbery in a July hold up of the Spring Thru Drive Thru in Piqua.

He previously was convicted in Shelby County on a charge of aggravated robbery and sentenced in December to eight years in prison.

Last month, he pleaded guilty in Miami County Common Pleas Court to aggravated robbery and was sentenced Monday to eight years. Before hearing his sentence, Bennett apologized and said using heroin had turned him into “a person without a conscience.”

Judge Jeannine Pratt followed a recommendation from county prosecutors and ordered Bennett to serve the eight years concurrent with the Shelby County sentence. Pratt also ordered Bennett to pay $981 in restitution.
