Gunman indicted in Vandalia home invasion

UPDATE @ 2:30 p.m. April 23:

A Montgomery County grand jury has indicted Rayshawn Brown, 18, for six counts of aggravated robbery and one charge of aggravated burglary.

Brown allegedly fired shots and robbed several people during a drug deal inside a home on North Perry Street in Vandalia in February. An alert citizen’s description of Brown led to his arrest, police said.

Brown is being held in the Montgomery County Jail awaiting arraignment April 28 on his felony indictment, online jail records show.

UPDATE @ 4:20 p.m. March 26:

A man accused of firing a handgun inside a Vandalia house last month during a drug deal and robbery is now in jail.

Rayshawn Brown, 18, was arrested Wednesday night at the Englewood Inn motel, South Main Street in Englewood.

Police were looking for him for more than a month following the Feb. 13 armed home invasion on North Perry Street in Vandalia. They credit a citizen at a nearby restaurant who saw Brown, recognized him and alerted officers.

Brown was booked into the Montgomery County Jail, where he is being held without bond on suspicion of felonious assault and six counts of aggravated robbery, all felonies, online jail records show.

Feb 23, 2015:

Vandalia police have obtained a warrant for the arrest of 18-year-old Rayshawn Brown in the Feb. 13 robbery at a home on North Perry Street.

Brown is accused of having fired a weapon in the home. The victims said two males, one white and one black, entered the home for a marijuana deal, the Vandalia Police Department said in a statement released Monday afternoon. During the deal, the black male fired a handgun and robbed all the occupants in the home.

The warrant seeks Brown’s arrest on six counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and one count of felonious assault with a deadly weapon.

He is 18, 5-feet-7 to 5-feet-9 inches tall, about 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing dreadlocks, but may have had his hair cut to change his appearance.

Brown is known to frequent the Englewood/Clayton areas and is to be considered armed and dangerous, according to police.
