Girlfriend goes into labor after man shot in leg

After a man was shot in the leg, his girlfriend went into labor and had to be taken to the hospital.

Police were called around 6:40 p.m. Friday to a shooting reported inside an apartment in the 1800 block of James H. McGee Boulevard.

Dayton police Sgt. Creigee Coleman said the victim let a friend and the shooter inside his apartment when an argument ensued among the trio. The victim was shot once in the leg; his injuries are not life-threatening, he said.

“At this point we think it possibly might have been robbery or drug related,” Coleman said, because officers “found illegal drugs inside the apartment.”

Witnesses said they heard arguing before the shooting.

The suspect is described as a male wearing a white hooded sweatshirt who was armed with two handguns.

A pregnant woman, the victim’s girlfriend, also was in the apartment at the time of the shooting.

“She was having some type of labor pains and contractions, so we called another medic for her,” Coleman said.

She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, while her boyfriend was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.
