UPDATE @ 1:30 a.m. March 15:

Police were able to bring a peaceful end to a standoff that over five hours.

Police from multiple jurisdictions were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. Saturday to the 300 block of East Orchard Hill Drive to check on a male that called a suicide prevention line threatening harm to himself and officers, according to West Carrollton Police Deputy Chief Robert Hensley.

Police say the man’s mother was inside the home when the standoff started but was escorted out of the home by police after talking with negotiators. Officers also evacuated many neighboring homes throughout the standoff.

Hensley says through the work of the hostage negotiators, police never entered the home and were able to bring a peaceful end to the standoff.

It is unknown if the man had any weapons during the standoff. Police say they will execute a search warrant to search the home for weapons.

Officers also say this was not the first time the man had threatened to do harm to himself, as police were called out for a similar event in December, but did not require a SWAT response.

Police have identified the suspect as a white male in his 50s. He has been taken to Montgomery County Jail with official charges to be determined on Monday, according to Hensley.

Police have surrounded a West Carrollton home for nearly five hours after a man is apparently barricaded inside after making threats.

Law enforcement vehicles from multiple jurisdictions, including Kettering and Dayton police, line both sides of Orchard Hill Drive off South Alex Road.

The man inside the house is believed to be in his 40s or 50s, and at one point his mother was inside with him but is out of the house now, according to reports from the scene.

Several neighbors said tonight’s incident caught them off guard.

One family was hosting a party nearby with several young kids who were there to celebrate a child’s fourth birthday.

“It’s a little stressful,” said Shaun Hudson of Miamisburg, who said the children were outside and scared, “asking questions” when all the police vehicles showed up.

The family closed the curtains and resumed the party inside, he said.
