Pair arrested following bike burglary

Police were called by ADT, a security company, for a burglar alarm sounding at a home in the 1200 block of Valley St. in Dayton at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday. The police report filed says the officers found the back door pried open, and no one inside. The homeowners were not home and unavailable, so the officers secured the home and left. It was unclear if anything had been taken.

About 35 minutes later, at 2:15 a.m., police came across Shaun Cobble, 20, and a 16-year-old juvenile, both riding brightly decorated bikes in the 2100 block of Jergens Rd. about 1.5 miles from the Valley street home. Both said they work for McDonalds, were heading home to Troy street, less than a half-mile away. The officers gave warnings to Cobble for bicycle violations. The juvenile was given curfew warning. Both were allowed to leave.

The story doesn’t end there.

A half an hour later, at 2:45 a.m., the homeowner from the burglary complaint location on Valley St. called police to report a burglary. The officers responded and the owner described two brightly decorated and expensive bikes were stolen, the value totaled $2,250. The victim wondered if it wasn’t “that kid,” identified as Shaun Cobble, who’d been trying to sell the man items to raise money recently, according to the police report.

Officers went to Cobble’s home and informed them they were investigating a burglary complaint and the bikes were stolen. Cobble was arrested, and the juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center.

According to online jail records, Cobble has a court hearing Thursday in the afternoon docket.
