Kettering man sentenced in Huber home invasion

A Kettering man will spend 17 years in prison for a home invasion last year.

Matthew Short, 24, was convicted of felonious assault on a police officer, three counts aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, three counts kidnapping, and one count of aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon for the November 23, 2014 crime in the 7600 block of Taylorsville Rd.

Short tied up the elderly homeowner and ordered two others into the home’s basement. The homeowner was able to call 911 to report a burglary in progress.

When Huber Heights Police responded, Short shot at the officer, who returned fire, according to the Prosecutor’s Office in a news release announcing Short’s sentence.

Short fled and was identified on a security camera video. He turned himself in the following day to police.

Prosecutor Mat Heck, Jr. said, “This defendant is clearly a dangerous and violent felon. In addition to brazenly kidnapping three victims, he also shot at a police officer. Thankfully, no one was injured or killed during these crimes.”
