Kettering man arrested on weapons charges

A Kettering man was arrested after a 15-year-old girl ran to a neighbor’s house to report a domestic incident involving a gun.

Police responded around 8:15 p.m. to the 4000 block of Cushing Avenue.

The first officer on scene spotted a man, identified as Christopher Engle, 45, getting ready to leave in his vehicle, said Kettering police Sgt. Robert Green. The officer was able to stop Engle, who complied with the officer’s orders, the sergeant said.

“He had two loaded guns in his vehicle,” Green said.

Engle was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County jail on suspicion of inducing panic, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, use of weapon while intoxicated and endangering children, online jail records show.

There were no injuries, but there were four children inside the house at the time of the incident, Green said. Kettering police had no prior contact with Engle, he said.

A neighbor who lives across the street said police had their guns drawn, and that the man gave himself up right away. She said the family who lives in the house seems to keep to themselves.

The incident remains under investigation and a prosecutor could decide to press additional charges, Green said.
