FIRST REPORT March 21:

A fight apparently broke out after Dayton Dunbar beat Franklin in the Division II high school basketball championship game at the University of Dayton Arena.

An officer called for back up because of a fight near one of the arena’s entrances around 5 p.m., according to scanner traffic.

Traffic was backed up on Edwin C. Moses Boulevard and Dayton police were observed driving on the sidewalk to get to the scene.

The 3 p.m. scheduled title game ended with a win by Dunbar, 77-76.

Our crews responded soon after the officer called for backup, but the crowd had already dispersed.

Police were trying to direct traffic and alleviate the congestion of vehicles exiting the parking lot.

Fans exiting the area told us emotions were high as the game came down to the final seconds.

Police were not immediately available for comment.
