Robbery suspect arrested while getting coffee

UPDATE @ 8:30 a.m. (June 7):

Officials say Phillip Edward Sexton, a man named as the suspect in a robbery of the Fifth Third Bank in downtown Dayton, was arrested Sunday morning.

According to police, Sexton was arrested at the First Lutheran Church at 138 West First Street in Dayton after a worker spotted him getting coffee at the church.

Sexton has been booked into the Montgomery County Jail according to online jail records.

EARLIER:

Police on Friday identified the suspect in Thursday’s robbery of the Fifth Third branch downtown and released a photo of the man for public consumption.

UPDATE @ 12:55 p.m. (June 5):

Dayton police say Phillip Edward Sexton of Dayton, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 140 pounds, robbed the bank Thursday afternoon.

UPDATE @ 2:25 p.m.:

The suspect described as very sweaty was wearing blue jeans and possibly got on a bus at the RTA hub. Police are checking surveillance video from the bank to get more information about the robber.

UPDATE @ 2:15 p.m.:

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-40s. He was wearing a gray T-shirt with red writing on the front and the word Buckeyes visible, a cap and eyeglasses.

FIRST REPORT

The Fifth Third Bank, 1 S. Main St. downtown, was robbed just before 2 p.m.

The police dispatcher told crews that the suspect is a male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, thin, wearing glasses, with short hair. He didn’t show a weapon,and fled on foot.

Police are trying looking for the suspect. We have a crews on the way.
