High-speed pursuit driver wanted for Dayton shooting

UPDATE @ 1 p.m.

The driver in the high-speed pursuit who remains on the loose has been identified as a man wanted in a shooting in Dayton from September.

Phillip Hanson Bass, 25, was driving the red Dodge Charger that fled a traffic stop on Miller Lane and led deputies on a pursuit from there into Harrison Twp., according to Montgomery County Major Daryl Wilson.

Bass is wanted in connection to a shooting on Osmond Avenue, in which a man was shot in the groin.

Wilson said Bass was stopped for a traffic violation on Miller. He peeled away when the deputy exited his cruiser, then did a u-turn and nearly struck a detective who was riding along with the deputy, Wilson said.

“I know Mr. Bass was driving very erratically and tried to hit one of our cruisers,” Wilson said.

Deputies were able to positively identify Bass as the driver from surveillance footage.

Neighboring police jurisdictions and county sheriffs have been notified to be on the lookout for Bass, who is considered armed and dangerous.

Wilson said potential charges against him now include fleeing and eluding and felonious assault on an officer.
