2 Dayton shooting suspects caught on RTA bus

UPDATE @ 11:25 p.m.:

Two men were arrested today in Dayton after they shot a West Carrollton man in the leg during an attempted carjacking.

The victim said he stopped to pick up the men on Needmore Road to give them a ride to Steele Avenue. He was shot near Steele and Xenia avenues with a black 22-caliber handgun in his right thigh and then the suspects fled on foot boarded an RTA bus. Police stopped a bus on Wyoming Street and took two suspects aboard into custody.

One of the men spoke to NewsCenter 7 after he was taken into custody: “Hi, tell my family I (expletive) up this time.”

Cleveland S. McCalister and Jadel M. Fitzpatrick-Dye, both 21, were arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

McCalister, the alleged shooter, was booked on suspicion of felonious assault and aggravated robbery. Dye was booked on suspicion of aggravated robbery. Both men are being held without bond awaiting arraignment on Monday, online jail records show.

UPDATE @ 3:45 p.m. One man was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, according to scanner traffic, after being shot in the leg. Police stopped an RTA bus on Wyoming Street and took two suspects off the bus as suspects in the case. They were reportedly armed.

FIRST REPORT @ 1:45 p.m. March 27: Police and medics are responding to a reported shooting in Dayton.

One person was reportedly shot near the intersection of Xenia and Steele avenues shortly before 1:45 p.m.
