Dayton man arrested for arson, domestic violence

A Dayton man is in jail on possible charges of aggravated arson and domestic violence.

Police responded to a house in the 1200 block of Valley Street on the report of an arson at 1:13 p.m. Friday, Once on scene, the victim told police Joseph Gordon, 37, threatened to shoot her after she didn’t give him money for alcohol, according to a Dayton police report.

The victim told police Gordon brought in a red gas can and poured gas onto a door mat as she was on the phone with 911. A 911 dispatcher told her to get out of the house, and she did until police arrived, according to the police report.

Police attempted to make contact with the suspect inside the house, but he refused and said he had a gun, according to the report. Officer said SWAT was going to be called out, and a minute later he opened the door and said he did not have a gun.

He was arrested and taken to jail.
